Drupal is an Open Source (free to use) CMS platform similar to Wordpress that uses a combination of PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript in conjunction with a MySQL database to produce dynamic web content. In addition to this functionality, Drupal's core contains a powerful engine (called "Views") that allows developers to call, display, and associate content from the database in programmatic ways. Using Views, a developer can create the types of interactions between users, types of content, or entities within the system that allow for the creation of complex web platforms such as shopping solutions and social networking websites. This level of power isn't necessary for every company that needs a website, but it can lay the groundwork for growth into previously unplanned digital expansions.
